Slip-on footwear can mean a lot of different things. However, most styles that “slip-on” rather than tie up are categorized in other ways so that the slip-ons category represents mainly one style for men, namely shoes that look and wear like a regular oxford, but slip-on rather than tie up. Other footwear that slips on, such as loafers, sandals, and slippers are categorized elsewhere. Discussed in this article are the major brands that make traditional slip-ons.
Crocs – While topping our list, Crocs are far from traditional slip-ons as I defined them just one paragraph ago, but they are such an important brand for the person looking for an easy wear shoe, that I included them. For the person looking for footwear that can slip-on easily and does not want to deal with straps or laces, Crocs are a great and economical choice and they make more footwear styles that are categorized as “slip-ons” than any other brand on our list, but if you are looking for traditional slip-on shoes for men, this is not the brand for you and searches for slip-ons will likely include many Crocs styles.
Stacy Adams – Stacey Adams footwear is a very large supplier of men’s footwear. Their men’s shoes can be found in many different style categories including oxfords, loafers, dress, casual, etc. However, with over 400 different current footwear styles for men, they make a lot of slip-on shoes that are not necessarily loafers or business dress shoes, and most of their styles have no laces, though Stacy Adams footwear is on the more business and dress side as opposed to casual comfortable footwear. Expect to pay between $55 and $85 a pair for their slip-ons.
Florsheim – Florsheim is very similar to Stacy Adams in that both brands have a long history offering a large and diverse collection of men’s footwear. Florsheim differs from Stacy Adams in that Florsheim is more business and dress oriented and a higher price range. If you are looking for dress slip-ons for business, Florsheim is your go to source, but expect to pay over $100 a pair for your shoes.
Rockport – Rockport is also like Stacy Adams and Florsheim in their long history and their focus on men’s footwear, and while they offer business oriented footwear, they also make more casual footwear. If you are looking for a casual slip-on that is very comfortable and can be worn to the office, when you don’t have a big meeting and comfortable enough to stay in when you get home, rockport is a good brand to begin your search in. There are plenty of slip on styles to choose from and decent prices.
Clarks – Clarks rounds out our list as your casual slip-on alternative. If you are looking for something comfortable and easy to slip-on that mimics the walk and feel of a lace on sneaker, Clarks has some great choices at a good price. While there were other brands of slip-ons that make more styles than Clarks and would technically be higher on the list of the biggest brands of slip-on shoe makers, these other brands are too similar to Stacy Adams, Florsheim, and Rockport to make this a well rounded list.
Some of the other brands with styling similar to Stacy Adams, Florsheim, and Rockport include Giorgio Brutini, Johnston & Murphy, Allen-Edmonds,, Bacco Bucci, Bruno Magli, etc. Other brands similar to Clarks include Merrell and Sperry Top-Sider. Casual shoes and sneaker like brands include Skechers, propet, Cushe, Dockers, and Acorn.
Like most other styles of footwear, when unless you are partial to a particular brand, you should search for footwear based how you intend to wear the shoes. For business meetings and sales calls, stick with more formal slip-on brands such as rockport, florsheim, Stacy Adams, Allen-Edmonds, and if you want something comfortable and casual, stick with brands such as Clarks, Merrell, Skechers, Propet, and Crocs.
